South 180° – The Route Goes South

PROJECT BY David Rall
“We overestimate the importance of knowing where we are because in nomadic times it was essential to recognize the tribal feeding grounds.” (Robert Musil, The Man without Qualities, trans. by Sophie Wilkins and Burton Pike, 1997, p. 3.)

The place itself is not as important as the thoughts, feelings and experiences it invokes in you. Entering these zones of self-transgression – of feeling lost, of resistance and physical fatigue – condenses and qualifies experiences. This generates moral and aesthetic motifs as we also know them from painting. Moreover, the walking pace sharpens the ability to see details and sceneries.
